Precious Biblical Scripts Offered To Museum Of The Bible At Pingtung Presbyterian Church

Reported by Chen Yi-fan

In order to celebrate the third anniversary of Museum of the Bible, an affiliated institute of Pingtung PresbyterianChurch, a thanks-giving service was held on July 10. Rev. Cheng Cheng-jen, General Secretary of the Bible Society in Taiwan, was invited to deliver his sermon. In the meantime, many precious biblical manuscripts and versions of the Bible by different donors were offered to this museum to celebrate this significant event.

Rev. Kuo Li-lee, a retired pastor, donated the hand-writing Bible in different languages including the Taiwanese,Japanese, English and Chinese; Elder Hwang Ming, from Hua-lien-kang Church, offered his personal Bible used over 50 years with detailed study notes on almost every page; Prof Liang Ching-fuon presented a replica of the German Bible translated by Martin Luther and published in 1534.

Appreciating Prof Liang's generous donation, Rev. Hsu Kwang-chuan, pastor of Pingtung Church, reminded theaudience about the epoch-making significance of the German Bible translated by Martin Luther. It was due to Martin Luther's efforts, insisting to translate the Bible into his own mother tongue, that the Words of God could escape from the discriminatory control in Ecclesiastical Latin and be freely read by his compatriots, said Rev. Hsu.
