Historical Site Established to Proclaim Human Rights and Transitional Justice

Reported by Chen Yi-fan

At 11:20 a.m. on December 23, 1979, Rev Hsu Tien-hsien of Lin-Tze-Nei Presbyterian Church who was an influential participant of the renown Kaohsiung Incident on December 10 and specially watched since then, was barbarously drag down from the pulpit by KMT’s secret police when he was delivering a Christmas sermon, and immediately taken into custody despite his pledge to comply after finishing the service.

This stunning event left Rev Hsu’s pregnant wife with her one-year-old daughter, the assembly and the international community with an unprecedented shock! The Amnesty International of USA even sent the staffs to work with PCT’s Rev Chang Ray-hsiong to express their strong concern and care for Rev Hsu, family and the Taiwan Church.

Now, witnessed under many PCT pastors and government officials from Transitional Justice Committee and Tainan City Hall, a historical wooden plate commemorating the suffering of Rev Hsu is established, 40 years later on the same date of December 23, 2019 at the same site of Lin-Tze-Nei, to honor the values of human rights and urge the Taiwanese people there is still lot of unfinished jobs to make transitional justice prevail!
