Taiwan Church News 3526 Edition September 23 – 29, 2019 Church Ministry Elder John Lai Awarded for His Noble Donation of Precious Church Files to PCT Reported by Chen Yi-fan As a Taiwanese scholar, famous for developing a new classification scheme for Chinese libraries and specializing in modern Taiwan history, professor John Lai had not only served in Harvard-Yenching library as Deputy Librarian from 1972 to 1996 but also been awarded Hon. Doctor of Theology from Tainan Theological College and Seminary(TTCS) in 2016. In order to witness the mission of Taiwan church with historic documents, including books, files, interviews, letters, genealogy trees, memoirs and miscellaneous notes, total over 3,000 volumes in 120 cases related to Taiwan church’s mission and history, Elder John Lai donated his whole-life collections to the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan in 2017. To express PCT’s heart-felt thanks-giving toward Elder Lai’s ubiquitous contribution and extraordinary good-will, Evangelist Lu Chi-ming of PCT’s Church History Committee took an exclusive flight to US presenting the special PCT’s Certificate of Appreciation to our most dear Elder John Lai on September 8, 2019.
