Biblical Story, Jonah And The Whale, Played In Taiwanese Opera

A famous biblical story, Jonah and the Whale, was played its debut by Taiwanese Opera Troupe at the Hai-Shan Friend Church on December 9. In order to make popular the Taiwanese language and its culture, Ms Liu Nan-fang, art director of Taiwanese Opera Troupe, hoped this biblical play could be used by the fellowship groups or Sunday School programs of local churches in the future.

With a dream to make popular the Taiwanese language through amateurish drama troupes, which usually requires 30 members at least, the Jonah and the Whale needs only about 10 actors, according to Ms Liu, adding that the dialogues and musics are all well prepared in recording media to facilitate the performance.

As the response of the debut of Jonah and the Whale at Hai-Shan Friend Church is very enthusiastic, an itinerant performance of this play will be arranged in the first half year of 2019 among several local churches, Ms Liu said.
