Taiwan Church News 3378 Edition November 21 - 27, 2016 Church Ministry Nuclear Medicine Unveiled in Taitung Branch Of MacKay Memorial HospitalReported by Chen Yi-hsuan After two years of design, installation and systematic testings, an advanced nuclear medicine equipment called"Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography"(SPECT) was officially launched into service at Taitung branch of MacKay Memorial Hospital(TBMMH) in the morning on November 17. In the thanksgiving service of unveiling SPECT, Dr Wang Kong-lian, the superintendent of TBMMH, remarked thatthe policy of "Strengthening Intensive Medical Care and Fulfilling Local Medical Service" had been the guidance of TBMMH in the past two years. In order to serve the people in eastern Taiwan with a high quality medical service, not only the surgery departmentof heart, chest, colon and rectal were invested with quality staff and hi-tech equipment, an ICU medicare for cardiovascular patients, and a nuclear medicine with SPECT technology were also implemented by TBMMH, said Dr Wang. In the meantime, via enhancing the safety level of the production unit of radioactive medicine, the challenge of howto supply radioactive nuclear material safely within the hospital was successfully solved through the technological help of Taipei MMH. Two years ago, with a purpose to serve cancer patients in Taitung area, the Grace Building exclusive for cancer treatment wasespecially opened in TBMMH. Except being equipped with professional medical staffs for the diagnostics and treatment of cancer, now following the launch of nuclear medical medicine in TBMMH, much more medical services, like radioactive treatment, medicare of hematology and oncology, Sunflower hospice care, and outpatient service for chemotherapy, are available to serve the people in eastern Taiwan.
