Say NO To China – A Message of Taiwan’s 2020 Presidential Election

Reported by Lin Yi-yin

Amid the 15th Presidential election and the 10th Parliamentary election held across Taiwan on January 11, Dr Tsai Ing-wen and her vice-presidential campaign partner Mr William Ching-der Lai both nominated by Democratic Progressive Party(a.k.a. DPP) received a land-slide victory with 8,170,231 votes, i.e. a majority 57.1% of turn-out-voters.

In the meantime, DPP also won 61 legislator seats to become the ruling party of congress, which requires 57 seats at least, demonstrating the general will of Taiwanese voters favoring democracy and freedom as the primary values of this country.

Rev Tan Gien-gak, Moderator of the PCT General Assembly, expressed that the election outcome showed China’s pernicious offerings, such as “One Country, Two System” or the so-called “1992 Consensus”, were clearly rejected by the consensus of Taiwan society.

Rev Abus Takisvilainan, Vice Moderator of the PCT General Assembly, added that Taiwan’s mainstream opinion – supporting Hong Kong’s anti-extradition movement and opposing China’s policy of “One Country, Two System”, was strongly voiced out through the election.
