Church Ministry MacKay Memorial Hospital Reaches Out To The Needy At Far-Off Rural Areas In Cambodia Reported by Lin Yi-yin Under a charity project, named Mission of Love in Relay, MacKay Memorial Hospital(MMH) sent a medical team to serve the poor in Cambodia’s far-off rural areas in early June. Except MMH, this 4-days overseas mission was jointly supported by Formosa Budding Hope Foundation, E. Sun Bank and some volunteers from local Cambodian charity groups. This MMH’s medical teams recruited physicians, pharmacists and nurses from diverse medical divisions, including pediatrics, family medicine, obstetrics & gynecology, gastroenterology and dermatology. During a very short 4-days’ medical itinerary, one day was specially arranged at an orphanage to inspect and diagnose the children. After learning this news, local Cambodians incessantly sent in their children fully loaded in trucks and became a spectacular event among local communities. According to Dr Yang Chun-jen, leader of MMH medical team and himself a pediatrics physician, remarked that among 1180 children, who came for diagnosis, most were found with tooth decay, otitis media, influenza and fever. As one child was found having heart murmur, MMH instantly coordinated with local volunteers to monitor this case in order to track and control the development in a long run, Dr Yang said. In 2015, a Cambodian six-year-old boy, Tong Ming-hon, was diagnosed with serious ventricular septal defect(VSD) during MMH’s overseas medical mission. In order to prevent a fatal heart failure, Ming-hon was soon arranged a flight back to Taiwan that year and received an operation at MMH on 22 September and then returned back to Cambodia in October. During MMH’s medical mission in 2017, all members of MMH medical team were very pleased to learn the health of Ming-hon had improved a lot and he could even ride a bicycle by himself.
