Dr Albert Lin, Pushing Hands Behind Love And Non-Violence Movement, To Publish An Oral History On URM And His Faith Journey

Reported by Lee Hsin-ren

In order to pay tribute to Dr Albert Lin, who devotes his whole life and career into pursuing the Kingdom of God and building the Republic of Taiwan, a book entitled as "An Oral History of Dr Albert Lin and URM Movement" will be presented to the 62nd round of PCT General Assembly on 18 April, 2017. This book is a joint-cooperation between PCT General Assembly Office and Taiwan Church Press.

According to Rev Lyim Hung-tiong, general secretary of PCT, a project of Dr Albert Lin's oral history was initially started by Dr Chang Yen-hsien, former president of Academia Historica, but was unfortunately stopped halfway due to a sudden death of president Chang during his USA visit in October 2014.

Following those face-to-face interviews finished by president Chang, and under a support by MacKay Memorial Hospital, PCT decided to co-operate with Taiwan Church Press recording down the faith journey of Dr Albert Lin and the interactive relationships between PCT and URM(Urban Rural Mission).

The major purpose of publishing Dr Albert Lin's oral history, said Rev Lyim, is to encourage all PCT members to learn from Dr Albert Lin's brave witness, be it in faith journey or social reform, that there will always be an amazing wonder and innumerable blessings once we commit the sovereignty of our lives to God.

In 1960s, as a graduate, Dr Albert Lin went to Canada to study nuclear engineering. In 1964, he established Taiwanese Human Rights Association of Canada to save Dr Peng Ming-min, yet enlisted in KMT's black-name-list for 32 years and hence not allowed to returned back to Taiwan.

In 1982, URM's Love and Non-Violence techniques ignited the inspiration and enthusiasm of Dr Albert Lin, when he met Rev Ed File, a pastor of United Church of Canada and also a community neighbor living only 200 meters off Dr Albert Lin's house. Dr Albert Lin humorously made fun of his encounter with Rev Ed File as "a journey of 200 meters spending 17 years", and thus URM was introduced into Taiwan via Dr Albert Lin in 1982. In the early days of URM training, Rev Ed File was committed to train and organize URM personnel secretly out of Taiwan; Dr Albert Lin received PCT pastors and social movement activists in his own home at Canada.

Subsequent to URM, many instrumental techniques to enhance institutional democracy and national security are introduced via Dr Albert Lin into PCT, including the Third Party Neutral(TPN), Open Space Technology(OST), and Civilian Based Defense(CBD). Now, URM, TPN, and OST are listed as the required capabilities among PCT evangelist and preacher, says Rev Lyim Hung-tiong, hoping that more and more pastors and social movement activists could understand the meaning of God's love and become the symbol of hope in Taiwan society through these training of Love and Non-Violence brought by Dr Albert Lin!
