On the evening of April 5th, more than 800 brothers and sisters in Christ gathered in the chapel of Chang Jung Senior High School for an interdenominational service to commemorate Jesus Christ. At the service, attendants also prayed for interdenominational ministries as well as Christian revival in their city – Tainan.

This is the 12th year that the Tainan Christian Council and the Evangelism Committee of Tainan Presbytery have cooperated with each other to co-host the “Tainan Good Friday Joint Service”. Efforts to enhance unity among local churches and Christians regardless of their denomination has been especially emphasized in the past few years.

During the service, Rev. Ting Chung-ho, President of Tainan Christian Council and pastor of Beimen Presbyterian Church in Tainan, said: “If we want to see a revival in Tainan, being united is very important. It is impossible to do it alone.” Later on in the service, pastors stood in line and served communion to people from different churches and denominations.

“It is not easy to achieve interdenominational unity; however, pastors from 60 different churches, including some Presbyterian churches, have some common goals. Therefore, these churches meet regularly and have launched several joint ministry projects together. Also, Tainan Christian Council has been putting great efforts into being the bridge between the church and the city government,” Ting said.

Rev. Chou Hisn-tien, director of the Evangelism Committee and former president of Tainan Christian Council, looked forward to more connections among denominations and more concrete ministry projects in the future. In addition to the Presbyterian Church, other denominations, such as Holiness Church and Bread of Life Christian Church, Baptist Church, Methodist Church, and more also sent members to attend the service.
