The Rev. Dr. David Georg Gelzer, Ph.D. 郭大衛牧師 Presbyterian Church (USA) minister and life-long missionary, educator, and staunch advocate and activist of self-determination, political freedom and peace, passed away on 23 January 2016 aged 96 in Rydal, PA, USA. His daughter Charlotte Weaver-Gelzer wrote “It is my sad task to inform you that my father, David Gelzer, died January 23, 2016. He had been ill with a recurrence of cancer for nearly 4 months. He died in the evening, with the chaplain present. His death was quiet, in stillness and in peace.”

Rev. Dr. David Gelzer and his late wife Mrs. Elisabeth B. Gelzer, served as PC(USA) missionary partners with the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) between 1975-1984. And was appointed to the faculty of Tainan Theological Seminary in Tainan as professor of Church History and Theology. In 1984 the KMT government expelled Dr. and Mrs. Gelzer for ‘activities detrimental to the country’ and they were not allowed to return to complete their mission service in Taiwan. Prior to Taiwan they had served as mission partners with the Presbyterian Church of Cameroon for more than 20 years.

With gratitude to God for the life of Rev. Dr. David Gelzer 郭大衛牧師 a service of witness to the Resurrection will be held 2:30 p.m. on 20 February 2016, at Swarthmore Presbyterian Church, 917 Harvard Avenue, Swarthmore, PA, USA - with a reception to follow.
