The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) received the notice that Mr. Ivor N Shepherd, former missionary partner of the United Reformed Church (URC) [formerly English Presbyterian Mission] and CWM went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, 20 April 2014. Following a brief illness Mr. Shepherd aged 83, died in hospital with his family around him. On behalf of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, Moderator, Rev. Lo Jen-Kuei and General Secretary, Rev. Lyim Hong, extend sincere condolences to the children and grand-children of Mr. Shepherd in the loss of their dear father and grandfather. The PCT will be represented at the funeral in England by our missionary partner Rev. Chung-Shou-Hui (Manchester). Ivor Shepherd and his late wife Joan (died 2012) came to Taiwan as missionary partners in 1958 and were assigned to the Tunghai University where Ivor taught English and was appointed Head of Western Language and Literature Department. Ivor continued teaching at Tunghai for the following 37 years until retirement in 1995 when they returned to their native England, UK. During his time in Taiwan Ivor Shepherd also served on the PCT Missionary Personnel Committee Language Sub-committee which monitored and counselled “new” missionaries as they struggled with the challenges of learning Taiwanese or Mandarin Chinese. Funeral service will be on May 6th at 1.45pm Haycombe Cemetery, Bath, England UK.
