PRAYER AND ACTION FOR
WORLD PEACE AND FOR TAIWAN'S ENTRY INTO THE UNITED NATIONS

1995 The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan

O Lord God - God of Love and Mercy

You have shown your love for the oppressed people in the past. You delivered your people in Biblical history from slavery and oppressive powers. You have delivered us from sin by giving your own Son to die for us. We, the people of Taiwan have also suffered, the church has suffered, at the hands of outside powers. This has not escaped from your eyes and loving heart. Because you suffered for us through Christ, you give us courage and hope to overcome. You have given us, as a church, opportunities to express your love in the midst of the suffering of our people. 

O Lord God - God of Justice

You have always lifted up those who were oppressed, given dignity to those unfortunate ones, and the weak. You have made us all in your image and called us to be servants of justice. You have helped us, as a church, in the past as we pushed for justice and human rights in our own land. During our 130-year history you have blessed us and encouraged us through our suffering as we identified with the injustice done to our people. Today, we as a people face further injustice in the realm of nations. We have been isolated, threatened, who will hear our cry? As a people we need to be recognized as a nation among nations. We seek your help as we strive for justice. 

O Lord God - God of Peace

In the midst of strife, and rumors of war, you have come to bring us peace. You alone are our sure defense. We long for the day when weapons of destruction will be turned to implements of peace. For us in Taiwan, we have experienced a history of oppressive rulers, powers that took advantage of us. We cry out for liberation from oppression and pray for peace. We thank you Lord, for the United Nations today, as they celebrate their 50th Anniversary. May they continue to be an instrument of your peace. We pray for peace in the Taiwan straits. As we are threatened by China, by the show of force, missile testing in our shipping lanes, nuclear explosions, and other aggressive actions, we look to you for guidance as we seek the counsel of peacemakers so that we can live together in harmony, coexisting with our Chinese neighbors. Show us the way to be partners of peace by allowing us to be a member of the United Nations, so that we may live in peace and contribute to world peace. We pray that you, O Lord, will hasten the day when your kingdom reigns with love, justice and peace. Amen.

Love and faithfulness will meet;
righteousness and peace will embrace.
