Fong-Ming Church is Born in Christmas Season to Deliver Good News

Reported by Lin Yi-ying

At a low temperature of 10 degrees Celsius, many pastors and PCT members gathered in a thanksgiving service held for Fong-Ming Church, located at Ching-Cheng Hoya Community, Fong-Ming Redevelpment District, Yingge District, New Taipei City, in the afternoon on December 28, 2024. This is the 98th church established within the PCT Taipei presbytery and the third church planted by its mother church: Hsin-Chuang Church of Taipei presbytery.

Rev Hsiao Chia-hong, pastor of Fong-Ming Church, said that the establishment of Fong-Ming Church stemmed from the visions emerged in a casual discussion with a group of pastors: Rev Chao Mu-li, pastor of San-Guang Church; Rev Hong Yong-en, pastor of Yingge Church; Rev Liao Ji-cheng of Shuang-He Church, and Rev Chong Zhu-liang, pastor of Hsin-Chuang Church.

In addition, Rev Hsiao said, as both his father-in-law and mother-in-law lived near Fong-Ming community, which made him decided to plant the church and serve the residents of the community. He sincerely hoped that more brothers and sisters of the community can become God’s children.

Regarding the inception of the church’s planting, Rev Hsiao retrieved that he once talked to Rev Chao Mu-li on his vision to plant a church in Fong-Ming community on the phone. At that time, four pastors including Rev Chao Muli, Rev Hong Yong-en, Rev Liao Ji-cheng and Rev Chong Chu-liang happened to take a same sedan to somewhere and began to discuss enthusiastically about how to proceed a plan to plant church, Rev Hsiao said.

Incredibly, Rev Chong Chu-liang later were invited to administer Hsin-Chuang Church, which is now Rev Hsiao’s mother church. In June 2024, under an joint-cooperation of the PCT General Assembly, Taipei presbytery and Hsin-Chuang Church, Rev Hsiao was sent by the PCT Mission Ministry Committee to plant and serve Fong-Ming Church.

Rev Hsiao gave his thanksgiving to Mrs Chen Yi-mei, a sister of Emmanuel Church in Hsinchu presbytery, for renting the house to Fong-Ming Church. The first and second floors of the church, with an area of 92.5 square meter at No. 513 of Fong-Ming Road. In the future, the first floor will be used for proclaiming the evangelical missions, and the second floor will be used a worshiping chapel for 50 people to assembly.

Mrs Chen Yi-mei expressed, “ Praise to God, it’s all His good will and blessings that her house can be rented to Fong-Ming Church,” Because she originally rented it through the realty agent, she did not knew the pastor would show up to sign the lease at the last moment. She also felt very honored that her house could become the house of God.

Rev Chao Mu-li gave a sermon at the thanksgiving service. He expected Fong-Ming Church to become “A Church to Give.” He also praised and affirmed Hsin-Chuang Church, established by Rev Dr. MacKay on June 18, 1876, which could plant and deliver the evangelical fruit, i.e. Fong-Ming Church, 148 years later.

Rev Chong Chu-liang said that Fong-Ming Church is the third church planted by Hsin-Chuang Church after Chong-Gang Church and Ming-Chi Church. Unlike a more traditional and smooth development stories of both Chong-Gang Church and Ming-Chi Church respectively, Rev Chong indicated, Fong-Ming Church is built from nothing but vision and passions, so the story of its birth it is particularly inspiring for the PCT member churches.

At the end of the thanksgiving service, Rev Chong Chu-liang, moderator of Taipei presbytery, blessed and prayed the assembly. After the service, Fong-Ming Church held a garden party in the Fong-Ming community courtyard, inviting San-Sia Church of Taipei presbytery and Smahan Church of Tayal presbytery to set up booths. In the evening, each community resident was offered a free food-box with steamed sticky rice, prepared by San-Sia Church, to celebrate the Christmas season and in the meantime raise fund for building a new San-Sia Church.
