Rev Cheng Yang-en, the PCT representative at WCC Central Committee, briefed the history of PCT ministries to the PCK guests. Pastors and clerical staffs from both church exchanged gifts and took photos for this wonderful assembly to share together. According to PCK, there are 69 presbyteries under its General Assembly. In this PCK visit, 49 clerical staffs from 41 presbyteries came to Taiwan, as each year PCK visits an ecumenical partner church and holds a retreat for its clerical staffs from presbyteries. In addition to spiritual retreat and official meeting, PCK also visits partner church to learn the history of local ministries in its annual trip. As Taiwan was chosen as the site of 2026, PCK delegates began their travel first after arriving Taiwan on May 26. On the morning of May 28, they visited the PCT GA Office and returned to South Korea on May 29. In his opening speech at PCT GA Office, Rev Choi Sang-do said that PCK and PCT have signed a partnership memorandum in 1973 and sealed a joint-missionary contract further in 1993 to strengthen mutual cooperation. However, he said, this is the first official face-to-face visit between PCK and PCT. He thanked PCT for its heartfelt warm welcome and looked forward to a closer fellowship between two churches in the future. Rev Wang Chong-ren pointed out that PCT has served in Taiwan for 161 years and has a rock-solid partnership with PCK. He hoped more exchanges and ministry cooperation could be done in the future. Rev Chen Hsin-liang hoped PCK could learn more history and culture about Taiwan in this trip, as the people of Taiwan are very friendly, hospitable and renown for sharing delicious foods. Paying tribute to the wonderful service and mission of PCK in South Korea for decades, Rev Chen hoped that PCK and PCT can pray, work and preach the good news to the world together. Rev Cheng Yang-en delivered a historical sketch of the PCT mission: starting from a fleet of passionate missionaries from England, Canada and the United States, to their audacious missions in eastern Asia since the end of late 19th century in Qing dynasty, to how modern cultures of medicine, education, social services and evangelical ministry were history-breaking introduced into Taiwan and abundantly blessed the beautiful island – Formosa. In the meantime, Rev Cheng also briefed the PCT’s missionary achievements: for example, Rev MacKay’s ministry in northern Taiwan, contribution of the Christian family network during Japanese ruling period, the evangelical mission to the indigenous peoples after World War II, the Church Doubling Movement, the 21st Century New Mission Movement, its participation in World Council of Church. Facing the challenges from artificial intelligence (AI) and the unpredictable impact of advanced high-tech around the corner, Rev Cheng sincerely wished PCK and PCT can work closer to serve and proclaim the gospel hand-in-hand. Then all pastors and co-workers took a photo together to mark the historical meeting and exchange. According to an official statistics up to 2024, PCK has a total of 69 presbyteries, 9,446 local churches, 23,020 pastors and clerical staffs in South Korea, including 16,998 pastors and 2,051 missionaries, 35,865 elders, 81,844 deacons, 1,563,898 lay people. Meanwhile, as the largest Presbyterian Church in South Korea, PCK also actively participates in ecumenical church institutions such as World Council of Churches(WCC) and Christian Conference of Asia(CCA).
