Former President Lee: Husband And Wife Should Share and Unite Together To Face Hard Times

Reported by Chiu Kuo-rong

On November 16, commemorating the 13th annual day for marriage, former President Lee Teng-hui was invited to deliver speechand 10 couples were awarded as the ideal marriage models at Suang-lien Presbyterian Church. This service was hosted by Happy Home Alliance in Taiwan and Taipei Christian Social Counselling Association.

Former President Lee encouraged all married couples to share and unite together to face the economic hard times. Leeemphasized that the couple should refresh their initial commitment to help each other. He quoted the Bible verses to remind that, no matter how hard or difficult the lives would be, husband and wife are one body to overcome the challenge.

Rev. Kao Jun-ming, Honorary President of the Happy Home Alliance in Taiwan, was also asked to gave a brief advise to theaudience. "Flower will wither away, and people grow old; Only truth and justice will make our country prosper and the family happy", said Kao.

According to Happy Home Alliance in Taiwan, due to an inspiration from a 1996 US Congress statement that "Marriage is thefoundation of successful society", they submitted a proposal to Legislative Yuan (Taiwan Congress) setting up November 22nd annually as a marriage day. Supporting by 52 law makers, this suggestion was adopted by the congress on May 16th, 2003, anticipating the precious relationship between husband and wife could be treasured on this beautiful island.
