Peace Conference Held By WSCF-AP Demonstrates The Energy and Power Of The Youth

Reported By Lee Hsin-jen

To commemorate the 60th year cease fire of Korean War and response to the appeal of justice and peace of 10th WCC Busan Assembly, World Student Christian Federation - Asia Pacific (WSCF-AP) held a peace conference at the north of Seoul from October 24th to 27th, discussing about the peace prospects of Asia Pacific and Korean Peninsula. And many students and young men of PCT had attended this conference.

Sunita Suna, general secretary of WSCF-AP, expressed that this peace conference inviting the youth from Asia and Pacific regions to discuss the issues, like Asian peace perspectives, Korean Peninsular Peace and Christian Student and Peace Movement, was very significant before the launching of Busan Assembly. Especially, the major thread of this Busan Assembly is "God of life, lead us to justice and peace", quoted from Luke 1:79, and WSCF believes the youth are full of power and ready to face challenge and impact from contemporary peace issues.

This conference has 28 attendants, coming form Korea, Philippine, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Cambodia and Taiwan. Though Taiwan had 6 youth participated in this conference, it's a pity that relations between Taiwan and China was not discussed at the formal session. Only at the sub-session meeting, this critical peace issue across Taiwan strait was ignited by the motion of Taiwan youth.

On October 26th, in order to hold a music memorial service for peace, all the youth attending this peace conference went to the Peace Memorial Park which is located in a non-military zone. In the chilly and windy outdoor stadium, together with Korean students band, PCT youth sang the Paiwan hymns and lead everyone dancing in Taiwan aboriginal folk song praying God of life to lead Asia and Korean peninsular to peace.
