2013 Tsai Jui-Yueh Dance Festival Dances For Human Rights

Reported by Chiu Kuo-rong

From November 1st to 3rd, through inviting internationally famous dancers, 2013 Tsai Jui-yueh Dance Festival will be held at Taipei's well known Rose Historic Site to express their social concern. In the afternoon of October 25th, the famous American choreographer Eleo Pomare, working with over 20 professional dancers, directed the rehearsal of the major performance - Morning Without Sunrise - within this annual dance exhibition. The story of Morning Without Sunrise is about the former South Africa President - Nelson Mandela, describing how he challenged the evil with a strenuous will and lead his people to reach the final liberation.

Shiau Wor-tin, Chairwoman of Tsai Jui-yueh Dance Foundation and an elder of Shin-Shing Presbyterian Church in Chi-shin Presbytery, expressed that the title of 2013 Dance Festical is "Do You Hear The People Sing?" with metaphorical notes questioning the government that "Is the dark cloud above Taiwan's sky a shadow casted by the monster giant?". Because a series of unjust events happened incessantly on this island, since President Ma took his office, Shiau ostensibly critiqued that the real cause of all these havoc are due to the manipulative maneuver by Ma administration.

Except the exhibition of international dance performances, invited from Japan, Australia and US America, three sessions of public forums are also held to show the concern of human rights from Tsai Jui-yueh Dance Foundation. Titles of each forum are "Land, Daipu and Human Rights", "Hung Chong-chiu, Mandela and Human Rights" and "Human rights: Free Choice / Trade Service Act". Shiau expressed that human right issues are always a major concern of Tsai Jui-yueh Dance Foundation. Through this Dance Festival, she wished to pass a wake up call to the Taiwan society and urge the citizens to attend our sovereignty and human rights. Especially, she hopes PCT could more positively speak out for Taiwan society and show her concern.
