"Sovereignty Erosion Economics Sellout = Taiwan Next ?", Sternly Questioned By Taiwan AssociationOF University Professors

Reported by Lin Yi-ying

On October 17, Taiwan Association of University Professors (TAUP) held a press conference, scolding severely about President Ma Ying-jeou's national address on Double Tenth Day (October 10th) because the current cross-strait status as an international relation were bluntly denied by Ma administration.

Lu Chon-jin, TAUP president, bitterly complained that Taiwan's sovereignty, national dignity and plural ethnographic realitywere seriously betrayed and overlooked by President Ma. In the name of free market and liberal economics, desiring to push through the Service Trade Pact(STP), Ma Ying-jeou actually became an commercial agent for the Chinese government. Lu emphasized that Taiwan's days are numbered to be a China's special administration district, if Ma is allowed to do whatever he wants.

Yao Jia-wen, Chief Director Taiwan Nation Alliance (TNA), expressed that Ma's speech of denying an international relationshipbetween Taiwan and China, together with his other intentions to sign agreements or make statements on China, could be deemed as committing treason felony for sure. Yao said all Ma's policies and political operations, including STP and so-called September political rift with congress speaker Wang Jin-ping, were evidently preparing for a unification with China. Saying that President Ma committed treason is almost a truth without doubt.

Chen Yi-sen, Associate Fellow of Institute of Modern History at Academia Sinica, criticized Ma's expression that theTaiwanese and the Chinese belonged to the same ethnographic Chinese people was a fuzzy and wrong concept to confuse common people's national identity on Taiwan. As a matter of fact, the ethnographic concept of "the Chinese people" was an artificial construct mixing five different people into one by Sun Yet-sen in the very beginning of the nation-building period. The most critical truth is that Taiwan is absolutely different from China, yet Ma tried to use "the Chinese people" to hypnotize and confuse Taiwan people. Therefore, TAUP want to give their strongest condemnation to this conspiratorial mix up from Ma.
