3139 Edition April 23-29, 2012 Church Ministry News Reported by Sam Lee Translated by Tsai Sheng-hsin Chunrih Long-term Care Center for the Elderly, affiliated with the PCT Indigenous Evangelism Committee, has received approval from the Social Affairs Department of Pingtung County Government and was officially registered on April 2, 2012. By providing services like faith and spiritual support, medical care, and assistance from social workers, the Chunrih Long-term Care Center is expected to bring high quality life and health care to the elderly in remote areas as well as members of minority groups. The Associate General Secretary of PCT Sing ‘Olam is currently in charge of the management of the care center. He said that an aging society is a trend in every part of the world, and the indigenous tribes here in Taiwan are no exception. Though tribes in Taiwan have traditionally taken care of the elderly, there is a growing need for elder care as younger generations continue to migrate to big cities for better opportunities. In addition to indigenous groups, the care center also provides services to the elderly in remote areas as well as members of minority groups, as long as they are in southern Taiwan. Sing ‘Olam also said that the care center was originally set up by the Chunrih Church in Paiwan Presbytery. However, due to the regulatory restrictions, the Chunrih Church was not able to obtain approval from the Pingtung County Government. Hence, the Chunrih Church turned to the PCT Evangelism Committee as well as the PCT Indigenous Ministry Committee. The PCT Indigenous Ministry Committee will assist in the management of the care center at the outset. Once the center is operating smoothly, the Chunrih Church will take over management of the facility. |
