Rev. Chang Te-Chien PCT General Secretary Dear Rev. Chang Te-Chien,
Greetings in Christ our Peace and Hope! Thank you very much for your prayers and solidarity for our people who have been devastated by the typhoon. Another super typhoon is coming tomorrow which would aggravate their already pitiful situation. We share the same predicament as you have also experienced typhoon devastation last August. With the climate change upon us, we expect more storms and higher floods. It was said that Storm “Ketsana/Ondoy” was a great equalizer because everybody rich or poor, Christians and Non-Christians were not exempted. It made everyone miserable. Amidst the terror experienced by our members, one of them told us “God is good because we are alive”. Their simple faith has inspired us to do our best in our efforts for relief and reconstruction. Our context challenges us churches in Asia to pursue our advocacy for ecological justice and do concrete actions to restore and protect our environment. We hope that we can work together and create impact in the way we do our mission for the sake of our people in Asia. Attach is our Bulletin Alert for your updates of our situation here. Blessings and Peace, Bishop Eliezer M. Pascua General Secretary UCCP
October 1, 2009 Rev. Chang Te-Chien PCT General Secretary DearReverend Andrew, Thank you very much for your email below. It strengthens the hearts of those who serve the victims and gives more hope to the victims. It brings us all closer together at this time. Yes, indeed, one after the other countries experience some form of tragedy. In all cases, we are tempted to ask whether God has abandoned us. Yet, we know this is not true. With so many reasons for calamities, it is yet one way, however painful, of the limited capacity of human beings and therefore total dependence on God's providence. It also reminds us never to abandon prophetic ministry along with loving service. Our relief and rehabilitation section will provide updates. Even as we also commend our brothers and sisters in Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos and Samoa. With all best wishes, (Rev.) Rex R B Reyes, Jr. NCCP General Secretary
