The Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar FJKM issued the following statement and call for prayer following the brief detention and abuse of its church (FJKM) President, Rev. Lala Rasendrahasina on 17 March and in response to the critical political and social turmoil in Madagascar the past months and weeks. The FJKM as a member church of the CWM and WARC is a partner of PCT and several of their pastors and officers including their current President Rasendrahasina, have been to Taiwan for various meetings etc. In addition, the past several years students from FJKM have studied at Tainan Theological College and Seminary under the PCT-CWM special scholarship programme. FJKM Vice President Rev. Dr. Laurent Ramambason was also at Tainan as a visiting scholar in 2007-08.

22 March 2009, Madagascar

Rev. Andrew Chang Te-Chien
General Secretary of Presbyterian Church in Taiwan

Dear Andrew and all colleagues at PCT,

Thank you for your message and prayers of support.

The situation in Madagascar is not yet good. The said "ruling authority" has taken its power by force through some militaries rebel and undemocratically. Therefore many people are now starting demonstration again.

I still live under threat and have to move from place to place.

Please keep praying for the Church in Madagascar, particularly the FJKM. Pray for our country so that peace will reign again.
God bless you all.

Lala Rasendrahasina (Rev)
President, FJKM

P.S.: our new General Secretary is Rev Marinasy
