World Council of Churches Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay sent greetings to the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea assembly. “For more than six decades, we have been honored to be your partner and constant ally in addressing the conflict and challenges in Korea,” Pillay said.“The Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea has been a prophetic voice for democratization, human rights, and reunification in South Korea all through these years.” Pillay thanked the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea for its witness and work in the Korean context, and for proclaiming Christ`s love and peace in difficult times. “We stand with you in solidarity and support as you continue the struggle for peace and the reunification of the Koreas,” said Pillay.“With recent changes in the Korean government and in the larger geopolitical context, momentum toward dialogue, cooperation, and improved relations has largely stalled.” Pillay lamented this deterioration of relations. “Yet as disciples of Jesus, Christians must resist this development and stand tall for peace,”he continued.“Certainly, these times bring a true test of ecumenical resolve and fortitude as, even today, true lasting peace remains elusive,” he said.“May we redouble our efforts to work with the churches – with you – to advocate for and advance prospects for real reconciliation and eventual reunification.” Read the full message WCC general secretary meets with South Korean prime minister Han Duck-soo - WCC news release, 24 September 2024 As National Council of Churches in Korea celebrates 100 years, WCC recognizes “exemplary courage” (WCC news release, 20 September 2024) Peter Prove: Churches offer hope and solidarity as pursuit of peace is changing (WCC news release, 23 September 2024) Photo gallery of the visit WCC member churches in Korea SOURCE>WCC |
