Applications remain open for the Global Ecumenical Theological Institute, which will bring together about 100 students ages 21-35 from across the world in Wadi el Natrun, near Alexandria, Egypt, 12-29 October 2025. The deadline is 31 October 2024. Students, who are recommended by their churches, will receive a reflective exposure to the vibrancy of lived faith on the Coptic Oriental Orthodox Church and Middle East. They will gather during the Sixth World Conference on Faith and Order for a blended learning experience consisting of a four-week phase of e-learning 15 September-12 October 2025, before the residential phase. Twenty facilitators from different higher theological institutions in the world will provide an academic competent and intercultural-sensitive accompaniment and engagement with topics pertinent to ecumenical theology as articulated in the Sixth World Conference of Faith and Order. Students, working under the theme“Where now for visible unity?” will be immersed in an inspiring environment for study and fellowship representing the fullest possible breadth of Christianity. “The Global Ecumenical Theological Institute 2025 in Egypt is an initiative through which the World Council of Churches seeks to reach the objective of creating an inspiring environment for study and fellowship among young people representing the fullest possible breadth of Christianity, so that they will be able to discover, respect and appreciate the differences and commonalities,” said Prof. Dr Ani Ghazaryan Drissi, WCC programme executive for Ecumenical Theological Education and professor at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey.“At the same time, the World Council of Churches intends to develop a long-term strategy for a range of ecumenical formation offers, including residential, blended and online-based short-term continuing course programmes in accompaniment of major ecumenical events and in collaboration with ecumenical partners in the regions.” In the 2025 Global Ecumenical Theological Institute, a close partnership will be established with Middle Eastern Church leaders and ecumenical partners.
