Written by Lydia Ma According to Taiwan Ministry of Interior, all organizations helping Typhoon Morakot victims must register with the government before fundraising and create a special account that provides public and detailed reports of where funds are coming from and how they are being used. As of August 28th, PCT's special account has received NT $59,688,647 and PCT might in the future join a financial accountability program set up especially for Morakot rebuilding efforts so that all transactions and activities can become transparent, easily monitored, and accessible to the public. PCT fundraising for Morakot rescue and rebuilding efforts generally come from appeal letters, notices on websites and bulletins, small carnivals, bazaars, concerts, donation hotlines, etc. Fundraising began on August 14th, 2009 and will continue until August 13th, 2010. Proceeds from all events will go toward supporting the daily needs of Morakot victims so they can settle down and build new homes. Funding will be used especially toward relocation away from devastated regions, short term placements and short term care for victims, equipment for rescue efforts, providing material needs, medical treatment and counseling services, emergency relief subsidies, administrative fees, and more. |
