Where Was The Lord?

The Lord was with Joseph. Genesis 39: 2 & 21 

The Saga of Joseph in the Old Testament 13 chapters long. Maybe that's why we pay attention to only bits of it. His father loved him best of all the 12 sons. Joseph became the chief steward in the house of Potiphar. He could interpret dreams. He was chosen to be the Prime Minister in the Egyptian empire. Hallelujah! "The Lord was with Joseph. " 

If the Lord would be with you and I like that, wouldn't life be wonderful? 

There were other times when the Lord was with Joseph, too. His brothers hated him. The wife of Potiphar lied about him. He was thrown into jail. He was forgotten. Hallelujah! "The Lord was with Joseph." 

But all that was long ago and far away. The Lord is with us when we are in love and when our partner breaks up with us. The Lord is with us when we get a promotion and when the company goes bankrupt and we lose our jobs. The Lord is with us when our children score the top of the class and when the police call us to pick them up for motorcycle racing. The Lord is with us when we do something kind and compassionate and when we sin and need to confess. The Lord was with Joseph. The Lord is with us. 

Prayer: Omnipresent One, teach us to trust and depend on you. AMEN
