Rev Kao Chun-ming Remembered In His Passion For Taiwan

Reported by Tulbus Isinkaunan

To remember and explore the significance of political involvement and Christian faith of Rev Kao Chun-ming, former PCT General Secretary delivering three important statements on Taiwan sovereignty, destiny and human rights amid 1970s, a conference entitled as “Passion for Taiwan with Love and Justice” was held at Yu-Shan Theological College and Seminary from November 13 to 15.

Rev Abus Takisvilainan, Vice Moderator of PCT General Assembly, reminded the audience about Rev Kao’s courageous actions and extraordinary service in speaking for Taiwan society and the voiceless Taiwanese people when they had to face the most chaotic and tumultuous challenges in 1970s, an era Taiwan expelled from the U.N., exposed to a deadly diplomatic cut-off from US’s recognition and an incessant military threat from China to annex Taiwan.

The message from Rev Kao’s sermons in his life were always stick onto the subjects like Jesus Christ, human rights and our beloved homeland, Rev Abus Takisvilainan reflected, and that’s why Taiwan society know he is a humble and faithful servant to God, human and his neighbors. Hence, Rev Abus Takisvilainan concluded, the Taiwan church is inspired to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God.

Rev Young Chi-sou, Rev Kao’s junior alumnus at Tainan Theological College and Seminary, shared an episode of Rev Kao’s personal traits: Once Rev Kao got a big complaint from one of his senior and respectable political comrades that he could only read the Bible and do the prayer but could do nothing to solve the real problem!

Seeing from a different view on this story, Rev Young remarked that Rev Kao’s insistence to read the Bible and do the prayer every day, even in his busy campaign for political involvement, manifesting the beauty of Rev Kao’s faithful life. Because Rev Kao always serve the Word of God and comply to His commands in action with utmost seriousness and sincerity, Rev Young said.
