Asian Girls Rights Alliance Launched To Win Back Gender Justice

Reported by Chiu Kuo-rong

On 7 October, the Asian Girls Rights Alliance(AGRA) is officially launched at Taipei. Ms. Chi Zoe, CEO of the Garden of Hope Foundation(GHF), wishes AGRA could help Asian girls break the traditional bondage imposed on them for long and set free their goodness and beauty.

On the so-called double tenth day, October 10, a GHF press conference, entitled as "Taiwan Girls Day vs. Changing the World Through A Politics of Women", not only kicks off with marching slogans as "Let Women Vote, Change The World", but also raises an AGRA flag pledging to fight for the girls rights around the globe.

According to a study of GHF, it is a horrific scandal that the problems of the child labor, female genital mutilation, children marriage, dowry death, sexual abuse, human trafficking, the limitation of women education and health care, and etc are still very prevalent among the Asian countries.

For example, there were 3 billions girl infants murdered in India from 2001 to 2011; about 90% of child labor engaged in house works are girls; two-fifths of women between 20 to 24 years old in Southern Asia were forced to have a marriage. GHF points out, only through an union of the concerned parties of girls' rights in Asia Pacific area, that the destiny of Asian girls could be changed.
