Taiwan Church News 3307 Edition July 13 - 19, 2015 Church Ministry As Monsoon Comes, PCT Plans To Help Nepal Quake Victims With Technology And MedicareReported by Lin Yi-ying Regarding Nepal earthquake, occurred on April 25, it is estimated by local government that the death toll was above 7,500 people at least and over 15,000 people were injured. To offer a more integrate support to Nepal's quake victims, Christian Conference of Asia(CCA) held a round table meeting from June 30 to July 1 in Bangkok, inviting her member churches to figure out how to help Nepal with materials and resources in the quake aftermath. To understand the current status of this devastating earthquake impact, Rev. Lin Wei-lien, PCT Secretary of Churchand Society Committee, together with representatives from Korean and Indian Churches flew to Nepal on July 2. It is found that there were still lots of refugees lived outside in the temporary tent or metal-sheet hut. As the rainy seasons of monsoon is impending for Nepal, many collapsed areas after quake are potentially to beinflicted with landslides. PCT, therefore, plans to support Nepal with a Japanese agricultural technique, named as "Santoyama Method", which can not only prevent mudslides and floods but also conserve the land soils. In the mean time, to cater the demands of artificial limbs of devastated earthquake victims, a medicare expert team is also considered to be sent by PCT. As these technology support and medical aids will be finalized by CCA in a meeting at the beginning of August, Dr. Hsu Victor Wan-chi - PCT Associate General Secretary - is expected to attend and reach a final decision there.
