Supported By Business Corporations, Students Of Happy Mount Colony Show Their Talents

Reported by Lin Yi-ying

After Mrs. Chang Jia-fan inaugurated in March as the President of Happy Mount Colony(HMC), a social welfarenursing home for the disabled, she started to develop a reciprocally philanthropic relationship with business corporations.

On July 3, HMC and Kaulin Foundation, a global leader in manufacturing industrial sewing machine, jointly held apress conference launching a charity project - "Sew Love So Love" - in order to help the disabled to show their talents via sewing and painting. On July 9, intending to remind Taiwan society about her social welfare and nursing ministry, HMC also announced to cooperate with a Hong Kong agent of famous English shoes brand - Clarks: when every pair of Clarks shoes purchased in Taiwan, NT$ 100 would be donated by Kong Tai Sundry Goods Co., Ltd and remitted to HMC.

Chang Jia-hsin gave her appreciation to both Kaulin Foundation and Clarks(Taiwan) for their special care and lovetoward the disabled children in HMC, as HMC is not well known and quite remote from Taipei city. Especially, Kaulin Foundation is appreciated for her long term promise to assist with facilities and resources, facilitating 49 disabled students and 9 teachers to cultivate their sewing capabilities and painting innovation. Chang believed, because of love from so many engaged parties, the students of HMC could learn with great encouragement to show their talents in future.

At present, there are 132 disabled students in medium or heavy extent in HMC. The annual budget for HMC is NT$6 million, deducting 43% financed by government anf 7% from the students, still 50% of budget needs to be raised from the public. For the readers or corporations, who are willing to help HMC, either you can go to the website of "i giving" and donate NT$ 300(about US$ 10) per month, or you are welcomed to join HMC volunteer services, like photograph, art design and etc. For details, please contact by telephone: 02 - 2610 1643 ext. 6125.
