Taiwanese Church In South America Fly Across The Pacific To Celebrate The 150th Anniversary Of PCT's Mission In Taiwan

Reported by Simon Lin

To attend the thanksgiving service of PCT's 150th anniversary of mission in Taiwan, which will be held on April 5th at the Gymnasium of National Taiwan Sport University, about 100 Taiwanese Christian pastors and laymen who had emigrated to Brasil and Argentina for decades fly back to Taiwan by their own expenses one week in advance of this big event. To make their visit running smooth at local churches, schools and institutes around the island, Rev. Lo Ren-quei, Moderator of PCT General Assembly, and Rev. Lyim Hong-tiong, PCT General Secretary, gives them a warm reception feast when they arrived Taiwan on March 28.

Rev. Chuang Chiu-wei, a PCT missionary sent to Brasil 30 years ago and then moved to Argantine, expressed that he is very happy to come back celebrating the good news has been proclaimed on this island for 150 years. "This is an event deserves to give our thanks and celebration" said Rev. Chuang.

Rev. Chen Jin-hon, Moderator of PCT Brazilian Presbytery, said " Preaching the gospel in Taiwan for 150 years is not an easy task. It is even unexpected that this good news could be brought into Brazil through the immigration of the Taiwanese Christians. All these are God's amazing blessings!". At present there are 12 member churches within PCT Brazilian Presbytery, which is the biggest Taiwanese church within Brazil, preaching to the tribe, village and slum constantly, and having held summer camp activities for over 3,000 poor kids.

The reception of this South American Taiwanese Church Team is in charge by PCT's Pine Life (Senior Citizens) Committee. Except Rev. Chen Yi-Ming is designated as the team leader, Elder Chou Tze-chin accompanies them in the whole tournament starting from Taichung and then southward. Local churches, be it small or big, mountain or sea side, urban or rural, hospital or seminary, are all visited to learn the vitality and diversity of PCT's mission in Taiwan.
