On February 27, a new translation of the renown historical book Formosa Betrayed with detalied annotation was published by Taiwan Association of University Professors(TAUP) at Taipei. Formosa Betrayed , written by George H. Kerr who was Vice-Consul of US Government to Chiang Kai-sheik regime at Taiwan in 1940s, is the first book describing the 228 massacre. The draft of Formosa Betrayed was completed in 1965 and published in Chinese in 1974. For this book will help the public to learn correctly about the history of 228 event, many historians were invited to re-translate this book with detailed annotations.

Prof. Chang Yen-shien, a very famous historian in Taiwan history, commented that this [ Formosa Betrayed ] is a very important writing which has a very deep influence on Taiwan. Chang said, why so many Taiwanese were and still are touched by this book, the reasons are: it told the story of KMT bloody massacre, emphasized to the US authorities that Taiwan should not be betrayed, and the Taiwanese should stick to the cause of ideals and independence.
