Taiwan Church News 3537 Edition December 9 – 15, 2019 Ecumenical News PCT Pastor Stands Up Against China’s Annexation Claim In CCA Reported by Lin Yi-yin From November 30 to December 4, about 40 member-church representatives of Christian Conference of Asia(CCA) were invited to attend an assembly, entitled as “Evangelism and Missional Witness in a Multi-religious Asia”, at CCA’s HQ office in Chiang Mai, Thailand. On December 4, in a session about versatile missions in Taiwan and orally reported by PCT pastor Chen Jer-ing, Ms Sun Chi of China Christian Council(CCC) was promptly angered by the his line specified as, “With its population over 23 million Taiwan is among the most densely populated countries in the world today…”, especially the word “countries” made her aggressively protested at the meeting insisting “Taiwan is an inseperatable part of China”. Ms Sun Chi’s impromptu claim about China’s hegemony over Taiwan’s sovereignty stunned the peaceful and religious audience, but surprisingly incur a resolutely polite reply from Rev Chen Jer-ing saying that “It(China’s dominance over Taiwan) is your understanding only, not mine. ‘Taiwan is Taiwan’ is where I stand!” Rev Chen Jer-ing’s firm stance for Taiwan instantly gained the approvals from the audience. Many representatives greeted him with a sympathetic smile, even more gave him an encouraging thumb to express their long-term discontent about CCC’s pubic bully against Taiwan. This wonderful CCA side way news telling a brave Taiwan pastor to stand against China’s oppression also went virally in Taiwan’s local newspapers and news outlet. People are very amazed to learn the Christians could not only deliver the compassionate love, but also witness a resilient fight for justice and peace in Taiwan! Translated by Peter Wolfe |
