Ms Chen Shu-chu Gives All Her Insurance Benefit To The Needy In Taitung

Ms Chen Shu-chu, a humble Taiwanese vegetable vendor and a famous philanthropist who is affirmed or awarded by globally renown institutes, like Time Magazine, Forbes Asia and Ramon Magsaysay Award and even a minor planet is named after her as “278986 Chenshuchu”, offers all her endowment insurance benefit worth NT$ 16 million to the needy in Taitung under the witness of Mr Huang Chien-ting, Magistrate of Taitung County, at Taitung on October 10, 2018.

Experiencing her mother tragic early death and young brother’s unsuccessful medical treatment, all due to lack of money to send them to hospital in time, Ms Chen at her 20-year-old had since decided to make more money to protect his family and reward the people who had reached out so kind and generous when her younger brother was in need.

Through establishing two philanthropic foundation and doing the words as she once said before, “Money serves its purpose only when it is used for those who need it”, Ms Chen Shu-chu donate the money to two famous Taitung hospital: MacKay Memorial Hospital Taitung Branch and Taitung Christian Hospital, and wish more needy people, especially those poor or marginalized people who cannot afford to receive a fare medical treatment, can be well served in their most needy time.
