Come Celebrate Paul Alexander's life with us!

Paul's celebration service is Sunday afternoon July 6 at 3 (visitation at 2) at Southport Presbyterian Church, 7525 McFarland Blvd, Indianapolis 46237. All are welcome.

The Taiwan service will be July 6 at 1:30 pm at Tunghai Chapel in Taichung.

Www.yourtribute.com has space for writing tributes or condolences in the Guest Book under Paul S. Alexander. In Taiwan the site is http://sci.thu.edu.tw/.

Dear Ones,

The last few days have been bittersweet. Your outpouring of love, encouragement and prayers has been overwhelming. Though we are sad at Paul's absence, we rejoice in the thought that he is reveling in the chance to learn everything he can about heaven in his first millennium there.

Your words of comfort and stories of your experience with Paul are very precious. Please send more....

When we first went to Taiwan we were told to be 'profoundly available' to those around us. This was uppermost in Paul's mind for the 38 years of our ministry as the Lord gave us love for our neighbors and friends.

I hope that your memories of Paul will continue to inspire you. He tried to demonstrate Christ's love as he lived among us, and would encourage you to do the same.

This is a song that encouraged us greatly when our sons Stevie and Phil died in 1965. May it encourage you as well.

He giveth more grace as our burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength as our labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials He multiplies peace.

1. When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

2. Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,
Our God ever yearns His resources to share;
Lean hard on the arm everlasting, availing;
The Father both thee and thy load will upbear.

3. His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

by Annie Johnson Flint(from James 4:6)

May we receive God's comfort so that we can share it with others, for those who belong to Christ do not grieve as those who have no hope. (1 Thessalonians 4:13) We know that we will meet again!

In faith, hope and love,

Lucy

Some tributes from friends, colleagues, students and family:

Cara Lin Bridgman:

Years ago, one of my colleagues pointed out Paul's legacy as a teacher was demonstrated by every one of the students he had advised: they all became good teachers. Several of his students told me how much they appreciated that Paul listened to them, especially in a time when professors weren't doing much listening - especially to ignorant students. Even more important, these students appreciated how Paul helped them design studies focusing on their own interests. He will definitely be missed.

Pojen Chen:

I am deeply touched by the memories & comments about Paul. Like Abel (Hebrews 11:4), by faith Paul clearly still speaks. I am sure that Paul is now rejoicing in singing Hallelujah to the Father and the Lord face to face.

Paul impacted my life tremendously. I will always be grateful for his words, life and friendship. In loving memory of my greatest teacher, mentor & friend – Paul.

Yu Fang Tsaufrom Hong Kong (Worked together in the Family Wellness Center):

Dear [Mom Alexander],

From your lifelong partner, I learned to serve quietly & humbly, & that is what I am doing now -- [Dad Alexander] set a very good example for many of us. From you, I learned to laugh, really laugh from the bottom of my soul. So do take good care & keep laughing those contagious laughs.

Ping-Chuan (Edward) Hu:

[Paul Alexander] is a Saint in my heart. His unconditional, unselfish service to the university and the people of Taiwan qualifies him as a Saint by my definition. And he was the only one. I know Paul well, I know he is with Jesus now, and enjoying eternal happiness in heaven.

Steve Wilkerson:

Dear Anne,

Your father was one of the kindest and gentlest and most loving human beings I have ever known. And the people in Taiwan with whom he ministered both felt and KNEW this. His presence on earth will be missed--and his entry into Heaven will be rejoiced.

Sylvia Knapp Ellis:

Your dad was a prince and a true man of God. He's more alive now than ever. We will all miss him.

Rick Kendall:

A giant among men of God, my Uncle Paul Alexander, passed on to be with the Lord at 86 years. He, along with his wife Lucy and family, were missionaries to Taiwan for many years impacting scores of Chinese people. He was a powerful example of a Christ-like life to me throughout the years even in shaping our ministry. The Kingdom of God has recalled a gentle giant.
