17 October 2013 Bishop Reuel Norman O. Marigza General Secretary United Church of Christ in the Philippines Dear Bishop Marigza We have been following the news reports concerning the 7.2 earthquake that struck central areas of the Philippines on Tuesday and in particular the island of Bohol and neighbouring Cebu. We understand the recorded number of deaths is already in the region of 150 persons. We are deeply sorry to hear this and wish to extend the sincere condolences of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) to the members of your churches and the people of your country. I appreciate it is difficult to assess the loss and amount of damage at the onset of such a disaster, however, we would appreciate hearing from you as soon as possible what is the disaster response of UCCP and the NCC Philippines at this time. In particular let us know how this earthquake has affected your church members and church property and so on, as soon as such information is available. Finally, please let us know the bank account details for disaster funds. As you know Taiwan like the Philippines is constantly open to natural disasters and from first-hand experiences we can fully empathize with your people and what they are going through. Please be assured of our concern and prayers especially for the grieving victims at this time. Sincere yours in Christ Rev. Lyim Hong-Tiong PCT General Secretary |
