5 March 2020 Dear sisters and brothers in Christ
Given the current uncertainties and global concern surrounding the COVID-19 virus and out of consideration for the wellbeing of our members, guests, host venue and wider community the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT), announces its decision to postpone the PCT 65th General Assembly meeting originally scheduled for 21-24 April 2020 to a later date (not yet decided).
PCT acts on the side of wise caution after regular monitoring the Taiwan Government and CDC reports and advice. We also took into consideration the travel alerts, airlines’ cancellations, and the precautionary safety measure of 14 day quarantine which is now a requirement for several nations.
It is with regret the PCT Officers and Secretariat therefore, have to rescind the invitation issued to our partner churches and organizations to attend the 65th General Assembly. For partners already registered please inform your representatives of this decision; at the same time convey our sincere apology for any inconvenience caused by the postponement.
As members of the church ecumenical family it is important to work together in solidarity when facing such situations. Let us unite in prayer for the wisdom of government leaders and the protection of frontline health workers as they deal with this difficult virus. We pray the transmission "chain" will soon be broken in the Asia region and worldwide.
Pray also all our church members will find strength to witness and share the peace of Christ during this global challenge, to console the bereaved, to help alleviate unnecessary panic and fear in their respective communities.
This season of Lent let us contemplate anew Jesus' suffering and sacrifice as we journey together in the context of these challenges. Sincerely yours in Christ,
