WCC Assembly Planning Committee continues honing spirit and vision of assembly

The World Council of Churches (WCC) Assembly Planning Committee convened online on 11 May, continuing to prepare for the 11th WCC Assembly, taking place in Karlsruhe, Germany, from 31 August to 8 September 2022, under the theme "Christ's love moves the world to reconciliation and unity”.

The committee is chaired by H. E. Metropolitan Gennadios of Sassima, vice-moderator of the WCC central committee. The committee honoured the life and ministry of Archbishop Rev. Dr Soritua Albert Ernest Nababan, global ecumenical leader who passed away on 8 May in Jakarta, Indonesia, at the age of 88.

By consensus, the Assembly Planning Committee finalized its report to the WCC central committee on the assembly preparations. At the heart of planning is the spiritual life of the assembly, from daily prayers to plenaries, from home groups to ecumenical conversations and “Brunnen” workshops.

Home groups, a new feature in WCC assemblies, will provide space for delegates to reflect together each day. Brunnen, the German for “well,” will be a space of encounter at the assembly featuring workshops, networking zones, exhibitions and cultural activities.

The 11 May meeting, the group’s sixth meeting since 2018 and third online meeting in the past nine months, also had on the agenda updates from WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca, the Assembly Worship Planning Committee and the assembly office Karlsruhe.
