The Covid-19 epidemic (Coronavirus Disease 2019)continues to wreak havoc on life as a global community. We note with measured relief of an ebb in China, even as we brace for spikes elsewhere. As such, there is wide scale uncertainty as to when we will see an end to or a weakening of this spread of this virus. Many have lost their lives as a result of this virus. Many more are affected and are in quarantine, extending to whole countries as in the case of Italy. The entire atmosphere is charged with anxiety, which is not difficult to understand and appreciate. We call for prayers for all those who are infected, the families of those who have died, and for those who are experiencing xenophobic attacks on account of this outbreak. We also pray for livelihoods that are being destroyed due to the impact of this virus on movement and the economy.

In light of the surge in the number of COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) confirmed cases around the world,the World Health Organization (WHO) called the new coronavirus outbreak a pandemic on Wednesday (March 11), issuing a grim warning that the global spread and severity of the illness was due to "alarming levels of inaction".The head of the UN's top health body for the first time characterised the outbreak as a pandemic, meaning it is spreading in several regions through local transmission. “We have never before seen a pandemic sparked by a coronavirus," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Wednesday.

In this circumstance, we do not have any other option but to cancel the Young Women Enabling Transformation (YWET) Programme, which was scheduled on 1 to 31 July in Kingston, Jamaica. This means that the YWET Programme is not taking place this year. A new set of dates for YWET 2021 will be announced later this year.
