WCC-EWN: Seven Weeks for Water

The World Council of Churches Ecumenical Water Network (WCC-EWN) invites you to use the season of Lent to reflect on water. Since 2008, the WCC-EWN through its campaign “Seven Weeks for Water” - has been providing weekly theological reflections and other resources on water for the seven weeks of Lent and for World Water Day on 22 March (which always falls during the Lenten period).

According to the Christian tradition, Lent is a time to prepare for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Christ. During this period many people engage in fasting and practice moderation or self-denial in order to focus on repentance and consecrating oneself to God. While water has a strong spiritual significance in the Christian tradition as a gift of God, this scarce resource is threatened and denied to billions around the world.

The WCC’s Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace will have a regional focus on the Pacific Region in 2020. Accordingly, the Seven Weeks for Water this year will take us on a pilgrimage of water justice in the Pacific region.

During Lent 2020 various activities around the Seven Weeks for Water will take place in the Pacific Region and the campaign was pre-launched at the headquarters of the Pacific Council of Churches (PCC) in the presence of the Reference Group members of the WCC Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace on 21 January 2020.

Biblical-theological reflections and resources on the water crisis in the Pacific region will be prepared and published on the WCC-EWN websites encouraging our member churches around the world to use these resources during the Lenten period. Interviews of water activist, including the authors of Lenten reflections will be published on our website.

Please see below the topics and authors of the reflections and the dates when they will be published.
