CWM Governance: 2020 Election

The Council for World Mission Assembly that was scheduled to take place in June 2020 was postponed to June 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, member churches, through their appointed delegates, will still exercise their duty to elect the Boards of Directors and Trustees as scheduled. Between 27 May and 17 June 2020, member church delegates will participate in the election via email electronic voting, presided by the Nominations Committee (“NC”). The newly elected Directors and Trustees will be affirmed at the Annual General Meeting (Annual Members Meeting) on 18 June 2020.

GETTING TO KNOW THE NOMINEES

Nominees for Moderator and Treasurer

  • Profiles for all candidates will be displayed under Voting Booth and also sent to all delegates via email.
  • Each candidate will also prepare short video clip in which they will speak to the delegates about why they their desire to be the next Moderator or Treasurer of CWM

Nominees for Directors and Trustees

Youth Nominees

  • The youth delegates will gather electronically in their regions, and each region will nominate two, male and female, as candidates for the Board of Directors.
  • Each nominee will complete a Candidate Assessment form which will provide the NC with insights into the gifts they bring.

Board Nominees
(three per region)

  • Each region will meet electronically agree on their 3 nominees to present to the Nominations Committee.
  • Each nominee will complete a Candidate Assessment form which will provide the NC with insights into the gifts they bring.
  • CWM staff in the regions will assist with coordinating the meetings of the delegates in the regions.

ELECTRONIC VOTING

The voting process will be led by the Nominations Committee and supported by the General Secretary, Rev Dr Collin Cowan, and the Executive Secretary, Ms Joreen Wun. The delegates will receive a voting slip via email. All voting slips will be verified by Nominations Committee. Additionally, the Chair of the NC will automatically receive a copy of each email sent to vote@cwmission.org.

The voting will take place on the days listed below from 6am to 6pm in the delegate’s local time.

8 May

Deadline for receiving nominations for Moderator and Treasurer

20 May

Voting delegates receive their voting slips, instructions and list of candidates.

27 May

Vote for Moderator

  • If needed, second round of voting on 29 May

1 June

Vote for Treasurer

  • If needed, second round of voting on 3 June

15 June

Vote for Board of Directors of Council for World Mission Ltd

17 June

Vote for

  1. UK Trustees of Council for World Mission (UK) and
  2. Board of Directors of Council for World Mission Africa NPC

18 June

The Chair of the NC will present the newly elected Directors and Trustees at the Annual General Meeting (Annual Members Meeting) held electronically.


Please note: Since the Moderator and the Treasurer cannot come from the same region, Once the Chair of the Nominations Committee (NC) announces the Moderator, any candidates for Treasurer who come from the Moderator’s region will be advised to withdraw their candidacy.

DISTRIBUTION OF VOTING SLIPS

Voting slips will be printed with serial numbers but distributed randomly.

CONFIDENTIALITY OF VOTES

Identities of voters will be withheld to ensure confidentiality.
